Orange Julep ( July 15, 2009 )
Here are the pictures from the cruise night. This was the biggest yet, they had to clean out the visitor parking to let some of the hot rods in, and a lot of new cars showed up as well. The Orange Julep hands out prizes and trophies in 6 different categories every week. On the 20th of July (Monday night) it will be Corvette night sponsored by the Corvette club in Montreal starting at 6:30 and finishing at 10pm.
The Orange Julep is located at 7700 Decarie Blvd near Blue Bonnets raceway, Montreal Quebec, Approx. 70 cars from classics to Hot Rod were there. Cruise nights occurs every Wednesday from from 6:30 to 10:00pm (May - September).
Constructed in the shape of a giant orange, 3 stories high with a diameter of 40 feet, the restaurant was built by Hermas Gibeau in the 1940s to serve his trademark orange drink, similar but not identical to that of Orange Julius. It is believed Gibeau intended to live in the three-story sphere with his wife and children. The restaurant and its orange sphere was rebuilt further back from the roadway when it was widened as the Decarie Expressway in the 1960s.
