Orange Julep ( June 24, 2009 )
Approximately 50 cars showed up at the weekly Orange Julep hotrod and classic car cruise night. This was a great turnout, probably due to the Holiday in Quebec. There were some nice cars including some new ones that had not been seen before.
The Orange Julep is located at 7700 Decarie Blvd near Blue Bonnets raceway, Montreal Quebec, Approx. 70 cars from classics to Hot Rod were there. Cruise nights occurs every Wednesday from from 6:30 to 10:00pm (May - September).
Constructed in the shape of a giant orange, 3 stories high with a diameter of 40 feet, the restaurant was built by Hermas Gibeau in the 1940s to serve his trademark orange drink, similar but not identical to that of Orange Julius. It is believed Gibeau intended to live in the three-story sphere with his wife and children. The restaurant and its orange sphere was rebuilt further back from the roadway when it was widened as the Decarie Expressway in the 1960s.
