Thornhill
Cruisers ( Sept.
4, 2006 )
The Grand Finale
event held by the Cruisers at the Glen broke
all existing records for car attendance, spectator
attendance and a happy 50/50 winner, where
a stunning $840.00 draw prize, went to a Newmarket
resident. Greg Wong, who promptly donated $200
back to the Participation House Project. Throughout
the evening, the crowd was serenaded by Gerry
and the Koasters while John Cigan did his Elvis
Presley musical interpretations and our favourite
Chef, Tim Zub did his Johnny Cash medley. At
the same time thanks to the generosity of both
the participants and spectators and the Sun
readers who came out, a large quantity of paper
goods was collected for the Hill House Hospice
in Richmond Hill. A very special thank you
to all who supported this worthy cause.
The really big event that capped off the season,
was the selection of the winner of the Mary
Carole Lant Memorial Award of Excellence, presented
by noted classic car insurance specialist Tony
Lant. Picking a winner from among the over
20 people's
choice and sponsor's choice winners
in the selection area was not easy, as each
and every one of the contestants presented
vehicles that were the epitome of excellence
in the hobby. Finally after due deliberation
the selection of the beautiful Aqua 1956 T-Bird
convertible of Thornhill's Bill Kirsch was
selected as the second annual recipient of
this prestigious award. A beautiful car and
a long time hobbyist Bill's car was also a
semi finalist at the Cruise Nationals.

The 18 week
season of Monday night cruise events put on
by the Thornhill Cruisers Car Club at the Bayview
Glen Church in 2006, was a complete success
thanks to the hard work of the members of the
club, the participation of over 1100 different
vehicles that appeared over the course of the
season, and the Sun readers who came out to
see all that is good in the car hobby in the
GTA. Street Rodding as we practice it, is a
respectable hobby, shared with enthusiasts
across our fine city, by car enthusiasts whose
back grounds and financial status is as varied
as the cars that arrive. Acting responsibly,
enjoying our hobby and helping our community
is what this whole summer has been all about.
