Joe Nex's
1930 Model A Tudor - PART 1
I started
this project in June 2005 and here is the
progress to date. After
receiving the car I did a complete tear
down of the body and frame.
Once complete I sold off all the parts that
I would not require as I was only
going to be using the body so I had a garage
full of parts that I sold over a
2 month period.
Once the body
was removed from the frame I made a custom
hanger from
the roof
in my garage so that I had access from top
to bottom of the body. I stripped
all the paint by hand to bare shinny metal
in preparation for the body shop to
complete the 5 inch chop and 5 inch channel
and some minor body repairs to
both side of the front cowl.
During this
time I ordered a custom frame from Alberta
with the following
options. Lengthened
frame by 3 inches that has been pinched in
the front and Z'd 4.5
inches in the rear. Suspension will be four
bar front and rear along with coil
overs.
I will be
installing a Ford 8 inch with 3.55 gear set
and drum brakes. For the
front end I will be running a 4 inch drop
tube axle with disk brakes. When I
had the frame built it was my plan to run
a small block chevy but have since
changed my mind and will be running a 49
Flathead and T5 tranny. The motor is
at the machine shop receiving a major build.
Here are some of the build specs
for the motor. I will be running a MAX1 Cam
with dual vale springs and
adjustable lifters. I purchased a set of
Wilson & Woods
Bonnivlle Heads of
which there are currently only 2 sets of
these Heads in Canada. For intake and
carbs I will be running an Offy Super Dual
with Holley 94's. I will be running
an MSD Electronic Distributor set-up to get
here running. speed shifting will
come from a T5 Tranny.
Current plans
for the body are a five inch chop that has
just been completed
along with a five inch body channel to
get the car really low. Paint will be
high gloss black with a ton of Blue Glass
along with custom flames that will
run from the firewall to end of both doors.
There will only be one piece of
chrome on the body that will be the cowl
band, there will be hidden door
hinges. I will be installing custom tail
lights from an early Caddy that will
be flipped upside down and a third brake
light above rear window.
