The Beverly Corners Show & Shine (Aug. 17, 2008)
The Beverly Corners Show and Shine is held on the second or third weekend in August at what was formerly "Chesterfield Park" and is now the "Cowichan Sportsplex". There are some unusual activities being planned for 2009 for example blowing up a car!
It all began nine years ago while Don Brown and Jim Foreman were having a coffee one morning. They looked out over an empty Country Grocer parking lot and thought, “what can we do with an empty parking lot?” When you get two old car nuts together it doesn't take long to figure out "A Show and Shine" would look good out there - the show began to emerge.
The show now plays host to 400 - 600 vehicles (depending on the weather). Vehicle entrants are charged $15.00, which qualifies them for thousands of dollars in prizes. The public is asked to donate a non-perishable food item as they enter. The show is helped along by an ever-growing number of sponsors. Each sponsor is given a trophy that they may hand out to whatever vehicle tickles their fancy. There is a "Best of Show" and a "People Choice" prize awarded and the annual "Don Gaddard - Rat Rod" trophy that is chosen by the organizers. Pictures of the Best of Show and Peoples Choice cars are part of the design for the following years T-Shirts. The 50/50 draws which brings in a few bucks for the kitty. All money realized after expenses goes to assist amateur sports ie. Hockey, Baseball, Lacrosse, etc.
Here are a few pictures from the show. Enoy!
