Syracuse Nationals
2006 ( July 14 - 16, 2006 )
We
made it to Syracuse safe and sound after a
late start and a 4 hour emergency rear brake
job on the Lincoln. We lost the brakes at a
stop light just as we cruised in to Stoney
Creek. After searching for a replacement part
we found a place that could custom make the
much needed flex brake hose. We got everything
together and headed to the border. We made
it into the host hotel around 10:30pm but registration
was closed for the day.
Friday
was the first day of the show. We headed over
to the host hotel and registered ($45USD).
Things were very simple and we were out of
there and
on
our way to the fairgrounds. We picked a good
spot and were ready for the day by around 9:30am.
We looked at cars all day and talked to a
few
people. Later in the evening we headed over
to the grandstand for the big truck & tractor
pull / Burn-out contest (5:00pm - 10:00pm).
Saturday started
off with RAIN... lots of rain!
It rained on
and off until the early afternoon. That kept
a lot of the cars away from the show
but eventually the rain cleared and the cars
came into the show.
We spent most of the day walking around and
looking at cars... watching them drive around
and looking for things to buy. There was
another show in the grandstand on the Saturday
but we did not attend. We felt that cruising
the hotel parking lots in the area would be
a little more interesting... and it was.
The Sunday was
stinking HOT. The turnout was good, however
there were a large number of upset people who
didn't like the fact that the give away car
was not given out on Saturday as in years past.
They decided to do the draw for the car on
Sunday. The Idea was to keep cars on the grounds
for
as long as they could so they could justify
the gate price for spectators.
People put a large
effort into getting their cars too the show
and they have to pack up and head home so they
can go back to work on Monday. We left on Sunday
at 12:30pm and we still didn't get home until
8:30pm. Many people have a longer drive then
we did and if they left late on Sunday they
would not make it home until the wee hours
of Monday
morning.
The issue is you have to be on site at the
show to win the car. Every person who enters
a car has a chance to win. I don't think they
gave the car away until 2:00pm.
The car show was great however... plenty of
cars and plenty of pictures taken. We had a
great time and are planing on attending again
next year.
Here are some
pictures that show only a fraction of what
the show had to offer.
